Imagine a young married couple—after years of trying and countless prayers—finally welcoming their first child. Their joy knows no bounds. But 18 months into their baby’s life, their joy turns into quiet anguish when doctors deliver a diagnosis: their precious child has a congenital heart condition—commonly known as a “hole in the heart.”
The good news? The condition is treatable through open-heart surgery. The hard truth? The cost of the procedure is far beyond anything they could ever hope to raise.
For three years, they’ve appealed through their church, turned to the media, started fundraisers—yet despite every effort, they haven’t even raised half the amount needed for just one of the two surgeries their young child requires.
Then, just as hope begins to fade, they receive a call. Children’s Heart Foundation Ghana (CHF-Ghana) has received their application. And in that moment, everything changes. CHF Ghana will cover the full cost of the surgery—less whatever they’ve already raised—and they are invited to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where they’re formally presented with the receipt confirming full payment. That story, while deeply personal, is not unique.
On 10 July 2025, thanks to the incredible generosity of our community of donors, sponsors, and well-wishers, Children’s Heart Foundation Ghana was able to fully sponsor life-saving heart surgeries for 23 children.
Each of these operations—averaging between US$9,000 – US$10,000 per child—represents not just a financial burden lifted, but a child’s future restored and a family’s joy rekindled.
This milestone would not have been possible without the extraordinary support of:
- Our corporate donors and sponsors who stepped up in remarkable ways
- The individual givers, some of whom give quietly but consistently
- Everyone who attended our Ball on 31 May 2025
The designers, volunteers, printers, planners, and storytellers who gave their time, talent, and resources to further this cause
To all of you—THANK YOU. Your generosity is the reason 23 children now have a second chance at life.
As one of the founding trustees of Children’s Heart Foundation Ghana, I am profoundly moved by what we achieved together.
I also want to recognize the parents and caregivers of these children, many of whom have struggled for years, seeking any glimmer of hope. Your resilience and love inspire us daily.
This recent donation brings the total number of open-heart surgeries paid for over our 15 years in existence to almost 300. We are proud of this accomplishment, but we cannot rest. Many young hearts are still waiting for the surgery that will allow them to grow, thrive, and live full lives.
If you’d like to be part of the next life we save, please reach out. We are still accepting donations for the children on our waiting list.
Together, we are giving Ghanaian children the gift of a future—have a heart, save a life.
